South Eastern Turkey Borderlands
(GUIDED TOURS CODE SE)
Our guided tours of South Eastern Turkey provide
you with an unforgettable feast of exotic colours, cultures
and landscapes. The Southeast and its borderlands form the
"untamed" part of Turkey, more Middle-Eastern in flavour,
with medieval towns such as Mardin and Hasankeyf
on the Tigris river, and the spectacular castle of Anavarza
which few outsiders ever get to see.
This fully escorted tour starts on the shores of Lake
Van, one of the world's highest inland lakes. You make
a detour to the Palace of Ishak Pasa with its large
harem and stunning views of Mount Ararat, before
walking around a 3000-metre high volcanic crater. You travel
through the heart of Anatolia's Kurdish region to witness
the sunset amongst the giant statues of the megalomaniac
King Antiochus on Nemrut Dag, a mountaintop monument
of ancient folly. After experiencing the exotic city of
Urfa, birthplace of Abraham with its colourful oriental
bazaar, you end the tour in Antakya, ancient Antioch,
which is the unlikely custodian of one of the world's most
stunning collections of Roman art.
It is on this tailor made, fully escorted touring holiday
that you will experience the intense fascination of Anatolian
Turkey and its people with their most unaffected hospitality.
